This hunt takes place at a sports field where there are multiple fields. It was recently done over by the parks department over last winter and up till last month so it was closed to the public for that time. They redid the baseball and football fields but left the football field I was hunting undone. The ground was extremely compacted and hard. I had an hour and a half in video and if you notice the end shot by my truck has the black bars on the sides of the video. I had to go to my second camera because of so many targets. Battery ran out on the Zi-8 and so did the memory card… With the constricted ten minute time on youtube thought about showing beginning signal shots and end macro shots of each coin but opted to show semi full digs (as the digger started and finished the dig on a few of the better coins. Can’t see wasting precious minutes showing Memorials. Oldest coin was a 1967 Roosevelt dime and I know there should be Silver there, just didn’t get it today.

We visit the site of the parachute packing sheds of the US Army’s 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, who were deployed in North Queensland during 1942/43. Featured finds over the two-day hunt include a beautiful 1947 Silver Florin (Two Shilling) coin, and a US Army M-1936 pattern webbing buckle. Some 3500 men of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, including the 501st Parachute Battalion and ‘A’ Company of the 504th Parachute Infantry Battalion, arrived in North Queensland in December 1942. After completion of training the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment embarked in August 1943, bound for Port Moresby. On the morning of 5 September the paratroopers were loaded into 82 C-47 transport aircraft assembled at eight airstrips in the Port Moresby area. Five aircraft carrying Australian gunners from the 2/4 Field Regiment accompanied the air armada over the Owen Stanley Range for the parachute assault on Japanese forces around Nadzab in the Markham River valley. They secured the Nadzab area for the construction of an airstrip from where the Australian 7th Division could be flown in to attack Lae from the landward side, while the 9th Division carried out an assault from the sea. Lae and Salamaua were taken by mid-September. Thanks for watching and please take the time to visit our blog www.nqexplorers.com
