No spectacular finds, but we though you may enjoy a little of the history and our day out in glorious North Queensland Autumn weather! For you rail buffs, on the way home we have a look at a timber trestle bridge built in 1893 and still in use! Thanks for watching and please take the time to visit our blog www.nqexplorers.com

This V Nickel was found when the Machine detected the Iron Nail underneath. I was hunting the top of a ridge, in “Relic Mode”, and because I began the hunt below the ridge on a very trashy site, I had the “Discrimination” turned all the way up to 7 from the usual 3 in order to weed out more of the trash signals. But along with discriminating and eliminating more trash targets in this way, you also sacrifice the Nickel and Gold Signals. To me that was a good exchange for that hunt on this trashy site, because I was mainly looking for Old Copper Coins and Silver. After about 45 minutes on the lower main ground where I usually hunt, I decided to hunt the top of the ridge located behind where the old home used to be. This is the same 1800′s home site where I’m doing the Bottle Dig. The bottles I’m currently finding are from the mid 1800′s and later, and so far the only coins found around the property are from the 1940′s and up. So on this afternoon I decided to take a brake from the current bottle dig I’m doing, and because of the age of these bottles, decided to look again in different locations on the property, in different modes on the detector. When I headed up to the top of that ridge behind where the house used to stand, I forgot that I had set the Discrimination up to 7 which eliminates the Nickel Signals. After about a half hour the detector signaled a “Jumpy” 30 VDI Pull tab Signal, to a 68 VDI Copper Signal ….. the signal was fluctuating all over the place, but …

This “Trash Pit Dig” for Bottles and Artifacts, takes place on a corner property where two intersecting streets are part of this towns oldest history. These streets date back to the early 1700′s. I initially dug this Pit back in May 2010 … www.youtube.com There are no buildings or foundations left, and it appears to have been empty and wooded since the1940′s. The material I’m finding in the initial part of the dig is dating back to that time period, but because the property is located on that intersection, I expect to find much older objects the deeper I go,… hopefully back to the 1700′s. This is “Dig 2 part 2″ ….. The First Dig took place last year, and this, the “Second Dig” yielded much older bottles and Artifacts including hand blown bottles, and “Sterling Silver Spoons” from the 1800′s. In this Dig, I also recovered a very collectible “Blog Top Bottle” (“Warner’s Safe Kidney & Liver Cure”) from the 1860′s – 1870′s which looked in one piece, but fell apart in my hand (the back fell off) as I was wiping it off ….. The disappointment was eased in “Dig 3 & 4″ (upcoming) where I recovered two more in excellent condition . There will be a series of deeper and wider digs to follow which will be marked accordingly. It may take as much as five or six parts so I will not be too concerned with format, introductions and endings. Just trying to squeeze in as much footage as possible, to avoid having too many parts. Hope you enjoyed the first one and keep in mind, I’m …
