I put a few hours in metal detecting at one of my spots and on the way home I saw some ripped up land in an old park and decided to check it out. As I was over there I saw broken glass everywhere and whole bottles from years ago from a path all the way to huge mounds of it piled up from machines. I Got some bottles that I think are turn of the century to probley the 50s but not real sure. Let me know if you know the age and if any have value in comments, Thanks and enjoy.

On September 24, I went metal detecting at an old abandonned house, built in the early 1940′s. The last time I had been there was in February, 2010, and can be seen on Recovering Relics Episode #6. I started off hunting the front yard. Right away I got a nickel/pull-tab reading at 4 inches deep. When I dug down, out came my first ever Buffalo Nickel! I’m not yet sure of the date. Minutes later I found the first Wheat Cent of the day. Not long after that, I found my second silver of 2011, a 1945 Mercury Dime. The Merc is in great condition and cleaned up beautifully. I went on to find several more wheat pennies, a toy gun, a spoon and fork, and two dog tags. That place gave up a lot of great finds and I will have to get back there as soon as possible to find some more old coins.

The first is another trip to the old picnic grounds and the second is a return the the old farmhouse from the video, “Walking with History” I went back a little more familiar with the E-trac and running recovery fast and got some goodies out of the ground! 10th Light Horse Collar Badge – My Metal Detecting Find of a Lifetime – Part 1

This is a video from a spot ive been metal detecting when I get time that is private property that i go when the gate is open by the owner while hes there. I Scored 5 silver coins and my first half dollar, plus more and a few small coin spills. I also did alittle coin searching for half dollars at a local back before i detected and scored 7 silver 40% half dollars. I had the search for them on tape but it was to long of a video so I just showed the finds from them at the end. Enjoy my best silver day so far…

This V Nickel was found when the Machine detected the Iron Nail underneath. I was hunting the top of a ridge, in “Relic Mode”, and because I began the hunt below the ridge on a very trashy site, I had the “Discrimination” turned all the way up to 7 from the usual 3 in order to weed out more of the trash signals. But along with discriminating and eliminating more trash targets in this way, you also sacrifice the Nickel and Gold Signals. To me that was a good exchange for that hunt on this trashy site, because I was mainly looking for Old Copper Coins and Silver. After about 45 minutes on the lower main ground where I usually hunt, I decided to hunt the top of the ridge located behind where the old home used to be. This is the same 1800′s home site where I’m doing the Bottle Dig. The bottles I’m currently finding are from the mid 1800′s and later, and so far the only coins found around the property are from the 1940′s and up. So on this afternoon I decided to take a brake from the current bottle dig I’m doing, and because of the age of these bottles,decided to look again in different locations on the property, in different modes on the detector. When I headed up to the top of that ridge behind where the house used to stand, I forgot that I had set the Discrimination up to 7 which eliminates the Nickel Signals. After about a half hour the detector signaled a “Jumpy” 30 VDI Pull tab Signal, to a 68 VDI Copper Signal ….. the signal was fluctuating all over the place, but …

I finally got a break so I ran to the woods as fast as I could for a 7+hr metal detecting hunt and found some cool stuff, I need to get out metal detecting more often!!!
