Metal Detecting in a Florida park and finding some old coins on Tuesday 1-17-2012.

Due to the amount of emails requesting us to go back to re hunt the old church grounds, we have returned to the old site this weekend in the hope of rescuing some medieval artefacts. I went back to the newer park again for the second straight night and this time I finally got me some Silver! Picked a barber dime and a sterling cuff I would think with the Saints symbol on it which is an old British mark, its very old. Also for a few Indians, wheat cents and more. Metal detecting in a CT state park

I found a lot of nice old coins and relics in July. I was surprised to find my oldest wheat penny in my yard, from 1916. I was also surprised to find a musket ball in my backyard. I also went to the old inn and detected the dirt pile where I found an old button, wheat penny, and gold ring in the past. This time I found a musket ball and an Indian Head Penny from 1880. The Indian Head is in beautiful condition except for a small part of it on the front of it. I also found my first ever arrowhead. The arrowhead is broken, but its still a cool find. This is a three day metal detecting hunt…. On the first day…..Monday January 18th..[[a 5 hour hunt]]…..It was still frozen Ground here in Chicagoland…I pretty much only dug sure signals,because the earth didn’t want to give treasure from it’s frozen surface…Besides…I didn’t want to break yet another shovel…During the week treasurefiends friend (Twistidd) -Joe had e-mailed me to get together for a Saturday Hunt.I agreed…….BUT…….Freezing temps mixed with rain & night freezing made the ground rock hard this week….& I did not get out tuesday -Friday ….So I e-mailed him Friday night and told him the ground was too froze,and I didn’t want to take the drive to the North-side with diggin being so tough…. After a good Saturday breakfast ….My wife told me to take out the garbage….When I walked out-side…I could hardly believe the mild weather….42 degrees already …..I could not sit around with this kind of weather….I Love the outdoors…. Not knowing Joe’s phone number….I checked ,& he wasn’t online…..I e-mailed him but didn’t wait long….Before out the door I went…… At first look ….Saturday at the park looked like the same old thing …Snow all over……..I got the shovel out of the back seat to test the ground…….Yes……..It sinks in 2-3 inches in some spots…….So I decided to give it a try….Only about 1 / 6th of the parks ground was diggable…So I stayed within those boundaries……..The first hour was tough,as it was hard to see which ground was diggable….but once I understood the lay of the land,and covered some ground….I found a real nice coin “Hot Spot”……. I spent 7 and a half hours straight….Diggin target after target……..Lots of clad……But Lots of goodies too……..I was having such a good time..I would have stayed 8 more hours but Darkness fell…… On the way home….I decided that Sundays hunt would have to be an older Park…….Wher I might find an indian Head cent or Old silver……..I e-mailed Joe again when I got home………and when I got up Sunday………………I checked my e-mail inbox & even after waiting a few hours………….No mail from Joe…..or treasurefiend…..Where You guys at ???? Sunday I headed for an Old Chicago Park….When I got there..I was suprized to find more that 90% of the snow had melted over night……….Ohhhhh Yeahhhhhhh……………………… In this 6 hour hunt….I dug target after target,after target…..& got three firsts for 2010………………………….. I apologize for not showing target readings,or showing any full or even partial digs….I was AGAIN having a great time diggin old coins,and could barely remember to capture thier image with may camcorder….I hope you can enjoy this….even a fraction as much as I had in diggin and filming this video….. On November 13th I went metal detecting at my neighbor’s house, which was built in 1695. I decided to focus on an area that I hadn’t detected much. I had been digging miscellaneous pieces of trash all day, when I got a sold penny/zinc-penny signal at about 4 inches deep. When I dug down, staring me right in the face was a big gold ring. This was my 2nd gold ring of 2011 and my 3rd in one year. When I went home to clean it up, I saw that it was from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy – Class of 1965. On the inside I read the initials “JPD”. When I saw that I knew what I had found. I found my neighbor’s class ring. The next day, I brought it over to my neighbor and returned it to him. He was pretty happy to have his ring back and I actually received a reward. The reward consisted of a few old coins, and some finds my neighbor’s brother made while he stayed here for a month and detected. Today when I was detecting, although I didn’t find much, I had an encounter with a 10 point buck and a doe. The buck got pretty close to me before it ran away. That was something I will never forget. The ring was a great find, but I’m glad that I returned it back to my neighbor.
