This Dig took place about two weeks ago . It was on a site occupied by a very large two story Home, which enjoyed ceiling heights in excess of twelve feet, and a Grand Ballroom that was later used as a Restaurant when the Home became a Business . The Place operated from the late 1800′s (1880) to about the 1930′s when it eventually closed . The Doors and Windows all boarded up now, from the street with it’s huge Oak tree lined driveway looks out to remind whoever sees this place of the Grand Style of Earlier Days ……. That’s why I had to Dig here . The find I made in this video is an old Chinese Coin dated somewhere between 1912 and 1916 …. Those I believe are the four years this style Obverse was made . The first year 1912 was made of Copper, and in the three remaining years were made in Brass. Thinking how it found itself on that ground took a couple of moments to think about, but knowing the Property was the site of one of the largest Restaurants in the area at the time, what caused me to think a little harder was the fact that the population for that area in that time didn’t include the Chinese community . But when it came to labor, in building Railroads, serving and cooking in homes and Restaurants … the Chinese were there, ready to work and enjoy the Freedoms of American Life. New immigrants, some came with money of their own in their pockets to start their new life …. and this one perhaps, while rushing to dispose of the Restaurants daily garbage materials …

This Dig took place on Jan. 7, 2012 …. (Part 2) This is not the property with the Old Vines that I was looking at the other day. That property has no buildings remaining, and is a site that I’ve been hunting since last year … I am thoroughly convinced, and ok with the fact that someone could devote an entire lifetime on some of these properties,.. hunt them from time to time and always find something there in that ground . After my initial Dig on the property in this video on New Years Eve, I went back a few days later to see what I could find . The living part of the back yard measures at about 300 feet back, off the rear of the Grand Old Home . The “Coin Spill” was discovered at about 600 feet behind the House …. It is the beginning of a wooded area which goes back for miles that hunters frequent from time to time. Up until that point, every Nickel Signal I detected, turned up only Shot Gun Shell Casings,.. so it was a nice surprise to finally see a 1964 Jefferson Nickel appear . After completing that dig, I was again surprised to see another signal appear just inches away from the first target. When I saw that it was also a coin, and found additional targets when I scanned the immediate area after retrieving the second coin, I knew that I probably had a “Coin Spill” on my hands,.. and the hunt was on . If you Dig,.. then you’ll know the feeling I’m talking about when you find yourself in a moment like this . You’ve already retrieved two coins inches apart, and …
