Went Metal Detecting at Kaiona Beach Park. Kaiona Beach Park is located between Waimnanalo Beach Park and Makapuu Beach Park at the southern end of Waimnanalo Bay. This small beach park only covers 4 acres of land. Kaiona means “Attractive Sea” in Hawaiian and was named for the clear blue waters found there. The bottom of the beach is sandy is popular for families as the swimming is safe, but there are no lifeguards. On Kaiona Beach are the Pahonu (Turtle Fence), the remains of a large fish pond supposedly built here by a former chief to encourage the local population of sea turtles, which he liked to eat – an early form of sustainable farming. www.beepdig.com
